Interested in being a Science Ambassador?

As a Science Ambassador, you will:

  • Gain valuable teaching experience

  • Engage in science education outreach

  • Help de-stigmatize what it means to be a scientist

  • Help broaden participation by underrepresented groups and inspire future generations of scientists

What does it entail?

Science Ambassadors work in pairs to cooperatively teach an interactive module on a topic in genetics. You can choose from several modules that were previously developed for DNA Day to use in your lesson plan or develop your own. You will be expected to co-lead one ~50min class and coordinate with host teachers to ensure your module is appropriate and accessible to their students.

A valuable part of the lecture is clarifying misconceptions about what scientists look like and who can participate in scientific research, therefore having time to talk about your career path and a Q&A session with students is highly recommended.
